Older Babies have just begun to walk on their own, and we work on introducing more structure into the classroom routine. In addition to daily story time and songs, we encourage lots of learning through free play, and provide age-appropriate toys to help grow walking skills and continued socialization.  Lots of love, cuddles, and laughter are an important part of this room, as our older babies explore their independence.  There is a lot of opportunity for parents and staff to interact daily and discuss eating, sleeping, and growth.

We focus on social, gross motor, and a start on fine motor skills through:

• Crawling, standing, dancing, and walking
• Brand-new colorful and stimulating toys are introduced
• A focus on the importance of sharing
• First blocks, shapes, and one piece puzzles
• Outdoor play, weather permitting

Our older babies:

• Nap in individual pack and plays and (each child is given their own for the duration of their time in the class); parents provide bedding
• Enjoy gentle music and dimmed lighting to facilitate sleeping patterns
• Continue on their own eating schedules with parent-provided meals
